I Want to Know About the Cows

Hey all!

Brief updates: A couple of weeks ago I got emergency transferred to West San Antonio into the Valley Ranch ward. The ward is massive and growing thanks to many new developments in the area. My new companion is Elder Tomlinson from Ogden Utah. The area here is beautiful and I'm loving it!

Stories from the week: We helped this wonderful nonmember family move in thanks to a member referral! Then just yesterday we had dinner with them and the member. The family is Hindu and halfway through dinner the member blurted out "I want to know about the cows. Are they really sacred?" The hindu family must get that question a lot, because they launched into an hour long discussion about what Hinduism teaches and what they believe. I found the conversation fascinating, though we ran out of time to share our own message. Still, the family was super kind and said they would be interested in hearing our message!

This past week my companion and I had to isolate due to a Covid exposure. I took some time to learn about my family history. I think my hero is my 4th great grandmother Sidse Marie Larsdatter. She converted to the church, and when her husband died in a work accident she made the trip by herself to Utah with her children. 3 of her 5 children died on the journey. She faced ostracism, hatred, rejection, and suffering, yet all who came to know her praised her sterling Christian character. I want to be like her.

Hope you all have a wonderful week! I promise to send pictures next week!

With Love,
Elder Watts
